Privacy Policy

1. What This Policy Covers

This policy explains what information Part of the Problem (POTP) collects at partoftheproblem.com, why we collect it, and who else touches it. We wrote it to be read. If anything is unclear, email support@partoftheproblem.com and a person will answer.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information: your email address and name, provided when you sign up. Sign-in is handled by Auth0, either with a username and password or through Google.
  • Payment information: handled entirely by Stripe. Your card number never touches our servers. We receive your subscription status, billing history, and the billing details you gave Stripe at checkout.
  • Viewing activity: which videos your account plays, how far into them you got, and on what dates. This is recorded when you watch.
  • IP address: recorded when your account streams video or uses the site while signed in.
  • Forum activity: when you subscribe, a forum account is created for you. Posts and comments you write are stored and visible to other members.
  • Preferences: your notification settings and onboarding state, so the site remembers what you have and have not seen.
  • On your device: we use browser storage for playback position (so videos resume where you left off), sign-in tokens, and cached account info. Auth0 sets session cookies to keep you logged in.

3. How We Use It

  • To run the service: authenticate you, check your subscription tier, stream video, resume playback where you left off, and give you forum access.
  • To bill you: process subscription charges and send receipts through Stripe.
  • To email you: payment failure notices, new episode notifications, live stream alerts, and occasional offers if your subscription has lapsed. You can control notification emails in your account settings.
  • To fight payment fraud: see the next section, which we suggest you actually read.

4. Viewing Data and Payment Disputes

  • This is the part most privacy policies bury. We will not.
  • A summary of your viewing activity (video identifiers, playback progress, dates, and your most recent IP address) is stored alongside your customer record in Stripe, our payment processor.
  • If you dispute a subscription charge with your bank, we submit evidence in response. That evidence may include your payment history, subscription dates, viewing activity, and IP records, because they show whether the subscription was actually used.
  • If you never dispute a charge, this data does nothing except sit in your billing record and help videos resume playback.

5. Who Else Handles Your Data

  • Stripe processes payments and stores your billing record, including the viewing summary described above.
  • Auth0 handles sign-in and stores your login credentials.
  • CDN77 delivers video streams and podcast audio. Amazon Web Services (CloudFront) delivers site assets like scripts and images. Both are content delivery networks, and like any CDN they see the IP address of devices that connect to them.
  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Supabase stores notification preferences and account state.
  • Resend delivers our emails.
  • We do not sell your personal information. We share it with the providers above so the service works, with banks and card networks when a charge is disputed, and with authorities if the law requires it.

6. How Long We Keep It

Account and viewing data is kept while your account is active. Billing records are kept as long as tax and payment rules require. Forum posts remain after cancellation unless you delete them or ask us to. If you want your account data deleted, email support@partoftheproblem.com and we will handle it, minus what we are legally required to retain.

7. Your Choices

  • Notification emails can be turned off in your account settings.
  • You can cancel your subscription at any time at partoftheproblem.com/settings.
  • You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or ask for deletion by emailing support@partoftheproblem.com.
  • Clearing your browser storage removes local playback positions and cached sign-in tokens from your device.

8. Security

Traffic to the site is encrypted in transit. Payment credentials live with Stripe, not with us. Access to production systems is limited to the people who run the service. No system is unbreakable, but we keep the surface small.

9. Age

The service is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

10. Changes to This Policy

When we change what we collect or how we use it, we update this page and the date at the top. Material changes get announced by email to subscribers.
